''JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association'' is a peer-reviewed medical journal published 48 times a year by the American Medical Association. It publishes original research, reviews, and editorials covering all aspects of the biomedical sciences. The journal was established in 1883 with Nathan Smith Davis as the founding editor. The journal's current editor-in-chief is Howard Bauchner of Boston University, who succeeded Catherine DeAngelis on July 1, 2011.〔("New Editor in Chief Named at "Journal of the American Medical Association'" ''Chronicle of Higher Education,'' March 10, 2011 )〕 == History == The journal was established in 1883 by the American Medical Association and superseded the ''Transactions of the American Medical Association''.〔 The ''Councilor's Bulletin'' was renamed the ''Bulletin of the American Medical Association'' which was later absorbed by the ''Journal of the American Medical Association''.〔 In 1960 the journal obtained its current title, ''JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association''.〔 The journal is commonly referred to as ''JAMA''.
